Gala celebrates 100 years of extraordinary community spirit while advancing next-generation health care

November 26, 2025, BRAMPTON/ETOBICOKE – On November 22, William Osler Health System Foundation (Osler Foundation) hosted The Next 100 gala and benefit concert to mark the 100th anniversary of Peel Memorial Hospital. Celebrations for the once-in-a-century milestone raised a total $2.45 million to support the transformation of Peel Memorial Centre for Integrated Health and Wellness (Peel Memorial) into Brampton’s second hospital, including gifts from members of the Centenary Circle program, who collectively contributed $1.8 million in Peel Memorial’s centennial year.

Originally opened in 1925 as a 12-bed hospital serving a community of just 3,000, Peel Memorial was built by the community, for the community. From its humble beginnings to its upcoming transformation into a modern, multi-storey facility, its history reflects a century of dedication, innovation and community-driven care.

The new Peel Memorial Hospital will add inpatient beds, a 24/7 Emergency Department, and enhanced outpatient services, helping meet the needs of one of Canada’s fastest growing cities and bringing world-class care closer for Brampton families.

“The story of Peel Memorial is one of extraordinary community spirit,” says Ken Mayhew, President and CEO, William Osler Health System Foundation. “The incredible success of Peel Memorial’s centennial celebrationis both a reflection on our proud past and an inspiration for the next 100 years. I am thrilled to see what is possible when a community truly rallies together to build a healthier future, not just for tomorrow, but for generations to come.”

In a powerful example of this spirit of generosity, contributions made during the evening’s Fund-a-Need donation rally were matched by The Esplen Family on behalf of The Humberview Group.

“Building on Peel Memorial’s long-standing tradition of care and community spirit, every dollar raised represents an investment in the health and well-being of our community,” adds Dr. Frank Martino, President and CEO, William Osler Health System. “These funds will help expand programs, address the significant need for more specialized care, and support a growing population, ensuring patients receive the care they need, when and where they need it most. Together, we are transforming Peel Memorial into a next-generation hospital that will serve our community with excellence for years to come.”

The black-tie gala, emceed by Canadian comedian Jessica Holmes, was presented by Orlando Corporation. It brought together supporters, residents, hospital staff and business leaders for an incredible evening, highlighted by performances from iconic 80s bands Naked Eyes and Men Without Hats.

“Supporting this gala was an easy decision,” says Blair Wolk, President, Orlando Corporation. “It’s not just a celebration; it’s an investment in the community we serve. Seeing residents, businesses, and health leaders come together for a shared vision like this is inspiring, and we’re proud to help turn that vision into reality.”

Additional support for The Next 100 gala was generously provided by: Generation Sponsors, Blue Giant, and LiUNA! Local 183; Era Sponsors, Almag Aluminium, Armour Insurance Brokers Ltd., Borden Ladner Gervais, CIBC, Compass One Healthcare, The Humberview Group, MCW Consultants Ltd., Quasar Consulting Group, and S. Robinson and Associates of RBC Dominion Securities.

The gala comes on the heels of a major project milestone announced earlier this month, when the Ontario government, through Infrastructure Ontario and William Osler Health System, signed a Development Phase Agreement with Bird Design-Build Construction Inc. to advance the design, schedule, and pricing for the new Peel Memorial Hospital. As Peel Memorial embarks on its next 100 years, the community can once again help shape the future of local health care. Be a part of history–and a part of the legacy.
