Etobicoke Invitational Hits a Hole in One for Health Care

On Monday, September 16, 144 golfers hit the links at Lambton Golf and Country Club for the 23rd annual Osler Open: Etobicoke Invitational in support of Etobicoke General Hospital. The event raised more than $215,000 to help build and equip the hospital’s newly-opened patient tower and support upgrades to the pre-existing building. The funds raised will be included in Osler Volunteer Association’s Etobicoke Matters Challenge, in support of health care for the Etobicoke community.

In June, the physicians and staff welcomed the first patients to the new patient tower. The first major expansion of Etobicoke General since it opened in 1972, the tower adds approximately 250,000 square feet of space and houses services most urgently needed by the community, including: a larger state-of-the-art emergency department; new Critical Care space; cardiology, respiratory and neurodiagnostic services; and expanded women's and children's space.

Revitalization of the older hospital building will continue into fall 2019 and beyond, to upgrade various patient care areas and modernize the original patient tower to ensure the community has access to the programs and services it needs now, and into the future.

“Governments do not fund hospital equipment, communities do. Thanks to generous donors, Osler Foundation has raised more than $22 million toward the $25 million needed to build and equip the new patient tower and update existing spaces,” said Ken Mayhew, President & CEO, William Osler Health System Foundation. “With the support of our golf committee members, sponsors and guests of the Osler Open, we’re that much closer to closing the funding gap to transform Etobicoke General into a state-of-the-art facility for the 21st century.”

The Osler Open: Etobicoke Invitational Golf Tournament was made possible with generous support from Bird Mechanical Ltd. and Downsview Kitchens.
