Helping Build Brampton’s Next Chapter: Primont Homes

For 50 years, Primont Homes has been more than a homebuilder—it has been a family legacy built on hard work, community, and giving back.

That legacy began with John Montesano, who arrived in Canada from Italy in the early 1960s as a brick mason by trade. With determination and an entrepreneurial spirit, he worked as a bricklayer before founding Primont Homes in 1976. Starting as a custom low-rise builder, John built homes across Scarborough, North York, and Downsview—creating 20 to 30 homes a year in the company’s early days.

What began with one man’s vision has grown into a thriving family business spanning both low-rise and high-rise communities across the GTA and beyond.

Today, Primont Homes is led by John’s children, Joe Montesano and Lore Attardo, alongside Lore’s husband, Charles Attardo. Joe oversees construction and the homebuilding experience, Lore leads sales and marketing, and Charles manages operations, staff, and procedures.

But while the business has grown, the values at its core have remained the same.

“Our dad always said you should give back,” says Joe. “Philanthropy runs in our blood.”

That belief has shaped how Primont Homes approaches every community they build. For the Montesano family, building homes has never been just about bricks and mortar—it’s about creating places where families can thrive for generations.

Nowhere is that commitment more evident than in Brampton.

Primont Homes began acquiring land in Brampton in the late 1990s, piece by piece, eventually assembling more than 200 acres across the city. To date, they have built between 1,000 and 1,500 homes in Brampton, with plans for another 8,000 to 10,000 homes still to come.

Their newest master-planned community, Cornerstone, reflects that long-term vision. Located near Mississauga Road between Sandalwood Parkway and Wanless Drive, the development is designed to support families at every stage of life—from first-time homebuyers to multi-generational families looking to stay connected and age in place.

“The idea behind Cornerstone was to create a community where families can grow together,” says Lore. “Young families can start there, parents can stay nearby, and people can remain in the same community throughout different stages of life.”

That same philosophy is what inspired Primont Homes’ transformational $2.5 million gift to William Osler Health System Foundation in support of the redevelopment of Peel Memorial and Brampton’s second hospital—the largest gift in the company’s history.

As Primont Homes continued to deepen its roots in Brampton, the family was looking for ways to give back. Their involvement in Hockey Night in Brampton helped reinforce the urgent need for expanded health care in the city.

“We like to affiliate ourselves with health care because we believe it’s one of the most important parts of any community,” says Joe. “When you build homes and communities, you also have a responsibility to support the infrastructure around them—and health care is at the centre of that.”

From birth to aging, emergency care to long-term wellness, health care touches every stage of life. For the Montesano family, investing in a new hospital means investing in the people who will call Brampton home for decades to come.

“As builders, we’re helping create communities,” says Joe. “But what’s the single most important piece of infrastructure those families need? Health care. It impacts every family.”

Their gift will help transform Peel Memorial into Brampton’s second hospital—bringing much-needed capacity, expanded services, and better access to care for one of Canada’s fastest-growing cities.

It is a gift rooted in legacy: a father’s belief in hard work, family, and generosity carried forward by the next generation.

For Primont Homes, building stronger communities means more than building houses.

It means helping ensure every family has access to exceptional health care, close to home.
