Skiers go for gold at Ski Day event - raise more than $86,000 for local hospitals

Winter sport enthusiasts basked in the sun and hit the slopes for William Osler Health System Foundation’s 10th annual Ski Day, presented by DG Group and supporters, raised $86,515 and attracted more than 180 skiers and snowboarders with proceeds supporting Osler’s equipment needs and redevelopment initiatives at Brampton Civic Hospital and Peel Memorial Centre for Integrated Health and Wellness.

“We are thrilled with the success of our tenth annual Ski Day,” said Ken Mayhew, President and CEO, Osler Foundation. “Events like Ski Day help thousands of patients who, in a time of need, turn to us each year to receive the quality of care that they need and deserve close to home. We are grateful for the support of the volunteer committee, sponsors and loyal participants who made the day such a record success.”

Participants thoroughly enjoyed the day at Caledon Ski Club, which included a delicious breakfast and lunch, ski and snowboard lessons, snowshoeing, and an après-ski reception sponsored by Druxy’s Inc. Funds raised at Ski Day will be used to purchase much-needed medical equipment and support development initiatives for Brampton Civic and Peel Memorial.

This year’s top pledge earner, City Councillor, Doug Whillans, was awarded the Jim Kennedy Top Fundraiser award commemorating the late Jim Kennedy, an avid skier, fundraiser for Osler, dedicated volunteer and co-chair of Ski Day for over seven years.

“We are happy to support such a great cause,” said Darren Steedman, Vice President, DG Group (presenting sponsor). “Ski Day is always a fun event for the whole community and knowing the proceeds will be used to help equip Osler’s hospitals makes it even more memorable.”

Ski Day is made possible through the hard work of the organizing committee: Steven Wimmer, The MBTW Group (co-chair); Mark Yarranton, KLM Planning Partners Inc. (co-chair); Trevor Hall, DG Group; Mike Harris, The MBTW Group and, City Councillor Doug Whillans, City Councillor Jeff Bowman and Jennifer Vivian, City of Brampton.
