Osler Foundation recently recognized three Osler physicians with the 2022 Physician Philanthropy Awards. These awards are given to those who demonstrate strong leadership in philanthropy by donating personally and contributing to the culture of philanthropy at Osler. This includes participating in fundraising meetings, tours, and event committees, encouraging grateful patients, and promoting philanthropic awareness and involvement among colleagues.

Dr. Andrew Cooper (Critical Care Medicine, Anesthesiology and Bioethics) and Dr. Varun Kapila (Division Head, Vascular Surgery and Site Chief of Surgery) were recognized for the Brampton Region and Dr. Prema Vaidyanathan (Etobicoke General Hospital’s Interim Site Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology) represents Etobicoke Region.

These outstanding physicians are a strong testament to what “going beyond” means for our community, both within and beyond the walls of our hospitals.

Dr. Andrew Cooper – Brampton Region
Dr. Andrew Cooper practises Critical Care Medicine, Anesthesiology and Bioethics at Brampton Civic Hospital and has 25 years of general practice, anesthesiology and critical care medicine behind him. In March, Dr. Cooper hosted a virtual chess tournament that raised over $3,900 to support the purchase of new anesthesia infusion pumps for the Department of Anaesthesia.

Dr. Varun Kapila – Brampton Region

Dr. Varun Kapila is Brampton Civic Hospital’s Division Head, Vascular Surgery and was recently appointed by Ontario Health – CorHealth Ontario as the Provincial Physician Lead for Vascular Care. Dr. Kapila is a valued champion of Osler Foundation who supports Foundation events as well as many behind-the-scenes initiatives, including sharing expertise and knowledge with donors that helps draw a clear picture of the impact of their gifts.

Dr. Prema Vaidyanathan – Etobicoke Region

Dr. Prema Vaidyanathan is Etobicoke General Hospital’s Interim Site Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology and has been a part of the Osler family for 20 years. She is an active supporter of Osler Foundation, from sponsoring Holi Gala to personal donations in support of the new patient tower at Etobicoke General Hospital. During the height of COVID-19, Dr. Vaidyanathan made a generous gift to support the purchase of PPE for Etobicoke General Hospital.
