Steve Robinson Announces $1.25 Million Matching Gift to William Osler Health System Foundation
Gift announced at 10th Annual Gala Benefit Concert will support local hospitals
November 28, 2023, BRAMPTON/ETOBICOKE – Guests of William Osler Health System Foundation’s (Osler Foundation) Gala Benefit Concert – Music to Make a Difference witnessed a special announcement on Saturday night when Steve Robinson, Senior Portfolio Manager and Wealth Advisor with RBC Dominion Securities and Chair of Osler Foundation’s Board of Directors, revealed that he is matching donations, up to $1.25 million, in support of William Osler Health System’s (Osler) transformation of Peel Memorial into Brampton’s second hospital.
The 10th annual Gala Benefit Concert, presented by Orlando Corporation, featured a powerful performance by Amanda Marshall and raised $510,000 for Osler hospitals: Brampton Civic, Etobicoke General and Peel Memorial Centre for Integrated Health and Wellness. During the event, Mr. Robinson was presented with the Osler Corporate Philanthropy Award in recognition of his philanthropic leadership. In addition to his contributions in support of Osler hospitals and his volunteerism on Osler Foundation’s Board of Directors, Mr. Robinson is actively involved in community fundraising.
“I believe that advocating for health care is important to all of us and I am honoured that in my role as chair of Osler Foundation’s Board of Directors, I can do my part, alongside my colleagues at Osler and its Foundation,” said Mr. Robinson. “Philanthropic leadership is needed now more than ever. I hope that by matching donations made to Osler Foundation, I can inspire others to step forward in support.”
“There is no one more deserving of this award than Steve Robinson,” said Ken Mayhew, President and CEO, William Osler Health System Foundation. “True leaders don’t just give; they lead. Steve’s influence lies in his ability to ignite the spirit of philanthropy in others. Leadership gifts like his incredible $1.25 million matching donation are so important as the community increasingly steps forward to help transform Peel Memorial into Brampton’s second hospital. His generosity will create a ripple effect that will extend far beyond his own actions.”
A multi-storey tower with inpatient beds for patients requiring longer hospital stays and space for more beds in future, the new Peel Memorial will help increase hospital and health care capacity in the community for years to come. The new hospital will also bring new and enhanced outpatient services to the community and include Brampton's second 24/7 Emergency Department.
“As a leading hospital system in Ontario, we are looking ahead to a bright future for health care with transformative developments on our horizon,” said Dr. Frank Martino, President and CEO, William Osler Health System. “Events like the Gala Benefit Concert are crucial in bringing our vision to life. I want to extend thanks, on behalf of everyone at Osler, to all those who made this event a tremendous success and congratulations to Steve Robinson for his incredible contributions toward a healthier community.”
