Father's Day is a time to honour the men who have shaped us with their love, wisdom, and strength. This year, it holds a special significance for my family and me.

Recently, my father-in-law, Albel Singh, faced severe knee pain that drastically impacted his daily life-simple pleasures became impossible. The vibrant garden he loves so much started to fade and his interactions with his grandchildren, once filled with energy and laughter, were limited. As a family, we were all affected.

When it became clear that my father-in-law needed surgery, we turned to the place I know best-William Osler Health System (Osler). I’ve worked for Osler for over 17 years, but experiencing Osler's care firsthand as a family member was truly eye-opening. From the moment we arrived, the compassion, expertise, and dedication of the Osler team shone through.

One standout moment that touched our hearts deeply was when an anesthesiologist spoke to my father-in-law in Punjabi. It was a moment of connection and one that forged a deep sense of trust and rapport-a testament to Osler's dedication to meeting the unique needs of every individual with empathy and respect. Even though she was from a different cultural background, this simple act made my father-in-law feel seen, understood, and reassured during a vulnerable time.

As an Osler employee, these moments of compassion fill me with an overwhelming sense of pride knowing that I am part of an organization that not only heals bodies but also uplifts spirits.

My father-in-law underwent two knee surgeries, and, thanks to the excellent care provided by my colleagues, he is back to doing what he loves. Our garden is blooming under his careful attention, and the sound of his laughter once again fills our home as he plays with his grandchildren. Seeing him regain his life and vitality has been the greatest gift for our family.
