Small but Mighty

Imagine a state-of-the-art medical device that can swiftly intubate and resuscitate infants in critical situations, allowing them to receive the urgent care they need. At William Osler Health System's (Osler) hospitals, such a device exists: the CMAC Intubation System. This ground-breaking equipment is making a profound impact on the lives of young patients.

Across Osler, we help deliver over 7,000 babies annually. The CMAC Intubation System is an invaluable asset, ensuring our dedicated staff are ready to respond swiftly and effectively to any emergency that may arise.

Central to the CMAC's effectiveness is its innovative design. Equipped with a video screen, this extraordinary system allows physicians to gain a direct view into the child's airway. This real-time visualization makes intubation quicker and easier when seconds count, and by enabling rapid, accurate interventions, the CMAC Intubation System also plays a pivotal role in making recovery quicker.

The incredible impact of the CMAC Intubation System at Osler is possible thanks to donor support.  Delivering on their mission to provide care for babies born prematurely, the Sandra Schmirler Foundation funded the acquisition of this lifesaving equipment at Etobicoke General Hospital. The William Osler Health System Foundation is immensely grateful for the partnership and recognizes the tremendous difference that philanthropy can make in transforming health care outcomes for our most vulnerable patients.

"As a nurse, the donation of the CMAC Intubation System has truly transformed the way we deliver exceptional care to newborn babies,” said Amy Kelly, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Resource Nurse, Etobicoke General Hospital. “This incredible technology not only enhances our ability to intubate with precision and speed, but it also brings warmth to our hearts knowing that we can provide these vulnerable little ones with the best chance at a healthy start in life.”

You, too, can make a difference. Your contribution can help ensure that this critical piece of equipment and other vital resources continue to be accessible to the medical professionals serving our community. Donate, today.
